Google I/O 2016 Extended Roadshow-Zamboanga Peninsula was held at DMC College Foundation, Sta. Filomena, Dipolog City last July 28, 2016. The one-day event was hosted by Google Developers Group (GDG) Zamboanga, and the College of Computer Studies of DMC College Foundation. With over 240 participants, including young professionals and students, coming from the different schools and colleges within the city attended the event.
The event started with the showcase of video clips highlighting Google’s latest innovations. The participants were amazed on the different innovations featured in the video clips. What followed were the talks by Google experts and champions.
The event started with the Doxology and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem followed by the welcome remarks of the Dean of the College of Computer Studies of DMC College Foundation, Ms. Maria Dara Saquin. Next was an inspirational message given by Dr. Dino Joey Cordova, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research of DMC College Foundation.
It was then, Mr. Salimar Bendanillo Tahil, Co-community Manager of GDG Zamboanga, who gave the introduction on Google Developers Group, particularly the Zamboanga Peninsula chapter. It was said that over the years, GDGs from all around the world have been passionate about sharing wonderful insights on Google products and services through different events.
Following Mr. Salimar Tahil is Mr. Wayne Manuel, a volunteer map maker and is presently taking up law. Mr. Manuel gave the keynote address for the event.
Following Mr. Wayne Manuel was Ms. Angeline Chrisette Olegario. Ms. Angeline, gave an introduction to Firebase. Her talk was followed by an ice breaker for the students and participants.
The next speaker was Mr. Arven Jade Aguilar who gave an introduction to Angular 2. It was then followed by a game that the students enjoyed.
The last speaker for the morning session was Mr. Benj tupas, another Google Ambassador. He discussed about Google Technologies for startups. It was indeed a very informative morning for all the participants.
The afternoon session was allotted to 3 breakout sessions with the topics on Polymer headed by Mr. Wayne Manuel, Firebase for Android headed by Ms. Joyce Guiao and Angular 2 headed by Mr. Arven jade Aguilar.
The morning and afternoon sessions ended and started with Q&A, games and open forum. The participants were very participative and took part during the entire event and got awarded with Google stuff like shirts and other freebies.
Google I/O 2016 Extended Roadshow-Zamboanga Peninsula was a one-day event jam-packed with new learning opportunities, possibilities and fun-filled activities. Kudos to the Google Developers Group and to all the participants that made the event a success.
